Spirit, Soul and Body.  The world says we are body, soul and spirit, but God’s Word says we are spirit, soul and body.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 Amplified Version

23 And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).

What is man/woman?  Man/Woman is:

  • A spirit being
  • Who possesses a  soul (our mind..thinker, doer, feeler)
  • Lives in a physical body.   When I die, my spirit and soul separates from my body.  My body goes to the dust of the ground.  People who have made their peace with God, which we call being “Born Again” or “saved”…their spirit and soul go to be with God in heaven.  We just change addresses! The Bible says: to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5 New International Version (NIV)

Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

You may be asking, “If my body stays here after I die, what happens to the real me…my soul…my thinker, doer, feeler? “What do you mean about being ‘Born Again’ or ‘saved’?”  How can I receive this free gift called Salvation which means my soul will go to heaven after my body dies?

1 Corinthians 15: 3-4 (Amplified Bible)

For I passed on to you first of all what I also had received, that Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for our sins in accordance with [what] the Scriptures [foretold],

That He was buried, that He arose on the third day as the Scriptures foretold,

Jesus Christ, God’s only Son died for your/my sins on the cross, according to the Bible.  Jesus was buried in a tomb and arose from the dead on the third day.

Maybe you’ve never accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.  Here is a good litmus test.  Do you know that God loves you and has a great plan for your life?  Do you know if you were to die in the next five minutes where you would spend eternity–heaven or hell?  There is a real heaven to gain and a real hell to shun!  Are you one hundred percent sure that if you died in the next five minutes that you would spend eternity in heaven with Jesus?  Your answer cannot be anything but that you are one hundred percent sure that if you died in the next five minutes, you know beyond any shadow of doubt that you would spend eternity in heaven, because you have asked Jesus to forgive you of your sin and accepted Him as your only Lord and Savior.  If you could not answer, “Yes I am one hundred percent, absolutely sure that I am going to heaven when I die.” then I want you to pray this prayer out loud:

Heavenly Father,

I admit that I am not sure if I were to die in the next five minutes that I would go to heaven to live with you for eternity.

I believe that Jesus Christ is the only Son of God–Your only Son, Father God.

I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sin, according to the scriptures.

I believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the third day and that He is now seated next to You in heaven ever interceding for me.

I acknowledge I am a sinner and ask You to forgive me of my sin.

I receive Jesus Christ into my heart as my Lord and Savior.  Thank you for forgiving me. Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for me!

I decree that if I were to die anytime in the future that I am forgiven and I am going to heaven to live with you forever.

I confess that You, Father God have God-given assignments for me here on earth.  I choose to fulfill my assignments.

I have a destiny in You, Father god. I am not going to heaven one day before you are ready for me to come!  I choose life!

I choose the Anointing–Your manifested Presence, God.  Here I am. Use me!

In the Name of Jesus,

Now that you have received Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior I tell you as a minister of the Gospel that you are saved.  You are forgiven. You are going to heaven when you die and you have God-given assignments to complete here on earth.  You are not an accident. You are here by divine destiny and by divine design!

Please let us know if you prayed this prayer.  We would love to help you get started in your new life in God.

In the next couple of blogs I am going to be focusing on the “mind”…our soul…our thinker, doer, feeler and how to walk in God’s best!
